Business Development Means Knowing Market Segmentation According to BALYO’s John Hayes a Forbes Contributor

John Hayes, Director of Sales for BALYO, a leader in innovative robotic solutions for material handling, is a frequent contributor to Forbes. In his most recent editorial contribution, Hayes explores the ability to understand market segmentation. He insisted it requires knowledge, experience, vernacular, and can articulate what makes each unique.

Hayes noted, “Those operating in the food manufacturing and logistics industries, for example, have a myriad of considerations that are quite unique. Improper production and transporting of food kills thousands of people every year. Understanding the kind of specific quality control and quality assurance procedures is not a trivial matter.”

“The segmentation is much more than just the industry delineation. It is an overall perspective of the conditions, situations, and problems solved with technology and other services provided.  The analogy of taking the right medicine at the right dosage to remedy a particular condition is apt. It starts with a diagnosis. Companies must know what they do well…what they offer as a unique value proposition. Then the discussion about the target customer segmentation will be a methodical and logical next step. Everyone on the business development team should be able to easily answer what is best about the company and the solution,” concluded Hayes.

Hayes is a proud member of the Forbes Business Development Council, an invitation-only organization for senior-level sales and business development executives. Members are respected leaders and executives who are selected for the council based on the depth and diversity of experience in the business development space.
