Migrant workers enjoy their meal at the T1 terminal of the Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport while sheltering from Typhoon In-Fa.
More than 50,000 migrant construction workers for Hangzhouxi Railway Station, the third phase of Hangzhou International Airport, and the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games venues have been relocated to safer places before Typhoon In-Fa landed in Zhejiang on July 25, local media reported.
The airport canceled all flights, as well as opened its No 3 canteen, No 1 canteen, T1 terminal, and office buildings on July 25 to accommodate more than 11,000 migrant workers.
“The living conditions are much better than our dormitories,” said one of the migrant workers, who is originally from Jinan, capital city of Shandong province, adding that it is his first time to encounter a typhoon and enter the airport terminal.
A total of 20,500 migrant workers for Hangzhouxi Railway Station had been transferred to 24 temporary shelters before the typhoon’s landfall.
In addition, 23 construction sites have been checked, 13 temporary barracks, 56 fences, and 107 hoisting machines have been reinforced. while 5,450 meters of drainage ditches have been cleared around Hangzhouxi Railway Station to prepare for Typhoon In-Fa’s landfall.
The Hangzhou International Expo Center is the largest shelter in Xiaoshan district. Boasting an area of more than 70,000 square meters, the expo center has housed 24,000 migrant workers for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games venues.
