February 18 11:12 2021
With the device, dental students can practice at home without the need of a patient. The device comes in a protective case, with hardware and software, making it fully portable

Uni Sim is proud to announce the launch of the world’s first portable dental training simulator for dentists, using virtual reality and haptics. The package consists of a laptop and haptic device, allowing students to practice dental treatment virtually from home, and anywhere else.

While using the device, students will be able to feel the sensations of drilling through enamel and dentine, almost like working on a real person. During times of uncertainties, lockdowns, and pandemics, such a device will become even more useful, to help students continue learning.

The device will also be useful in universities for students to practice more, without the need for volunteer patients. It’s a technology that is redefining dental education in an interesting and unique way.

“We’re delighted to be offering universities, for the first time, a way to teach dentistry remotely through a haptic and VR simulator. It allows students to practice treatments on a virtual patient and feel the real sensations of drilling through enamel and dentine using the haptic technology.” – James Markey, CEO.

Uni Sim (Universal Simulation Ltd) is a company that is committed to improving practical knowledge acquisition through virtual reality and simulations. At first, they are targeting dental operations, to begin with, starting with simulations in restoration, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery. They are also developing a simulation to teach anaesthesia in a project with New York University and ADEMA University.

The portable dental training simulator comes fully packed with hardware and simulator software. The hardware includes a carry case, which houses everything and protects it from damage. It allows the user to take the device anywhere with little or no effort. There is also the haptic device with 3.3N exertable force and a custom laptop that works with all operating systems and simulation software. The case also comes with VR headsets for full immersion and accessories like laptop risers, foot pedals, finger rest, etc. The software collection includes Uni Sims OS, and simulations for Dentiversal, Oral Surgery, and Anaestheasy. The company is planning to release more software in the coming months.
