Unfortunately, imports from the mainland have suffered a big toll this year given the devastating wildfires in Oregon. But, here comes some good news – Hawaii Island’s Hamakua Christmas Tree Forest has grown a vast collection of live Christmas trees to shop from to ensure every house in the Big Island of Hawaii gets to have a real Christmas tree for Christmas.
Hamakua Christmas Tree Forest is Hawaii Island’s go-to Christmas tree farm that is centrally located on the Hamakua Coast. The tree farm was founded in 2017 by Rich and Nancy Bradwell.
The farm is currently offering early season tree tagging, starting from November 1, 2021. It will be open 7 days a week, from 11am-5pm so that families can visit whenever is most convenient for their busy schedule.

Hamakua Christmas Tree Forest stocks over 1,000 live Christmas trees that they have grown locally at their property on the Hamakua Coast. The farm grows a variety of traditional Big Island Christmas trees so that customers get a large selection to choose from according to their preferred style and size. Hamakua Christmas Tree Forest is an open-air shop and parents can bring their kids who will have a good time running through acres of open fields while selecting and tagging their choice of real Christmas trees.
Speaking on, the founders discussed that they grow Portuguese Cypress and Arizona Cypress Christmas trees among other varieties to serve the Hawaii community with the best selection of Christmas trees in the market.
“Our Christmas trees are lightweight so you can carry them easily and set them up at any place you want to. They can be conveniently hand-trimmed and shaped to fit the look and the shape of your preferred Christmas tree for the holiday celebrations. Also, they smell lovely and seasonal, and will remind you of this magical time of year. And yes, we have very hardy and sustainable Christmas trees here. When you cut down your tree, a new one will actually re-sprout from its old base”, explained the farm founders.
Hamakua Christmas Tree Forest also offers the option to pre-order their Christmas trees online. Customers will be able to choose from trees in various sizes, ranging from 5ft to 7ft to even bigger 10ft ones as well.
This year, the farm also has several events lined up for the holiday season. The farm is inviting families to join it for scavenger hunts, drone racing and disc golf contests that will be taking place over the next several weekends.
